Derek Lamson: Recordings

So this is Monday Nite At Bill’s, the fourth and, I think, last Derek And
Friends recording. Doesn’t April look smashing? Sorry it’s been so long in between. After See My Freedom Come was released in ’03, it seems we started talking about a new collection almost immediately; and still it took six years. We knew we wanted to do back-catalog songs we’d loved but never gotten recorded; or songs recorded live, (and wanted another crack at in a studio), and of course there was the newer stuff we liked that inevitably shows up while you’re recording. Enjoy!

Fast fun fervent and accomplished, a big African take on Rich Mullin's classic worship chorus. Reggae, hip-hop. All Jesus, all fun.

ich Mullin’s much loved ’93 hit: “Our God Is An Awesome God” is also loved in Burundi central Africa. I found this out in March of 2007, when the team of church musicians I was working with there, suggested the song for the recording sessions we were planning.



When I heard their version, which is Rich’s great chorus, no verses, and their own rap bridge, I knew we had a hit. Our big hope and plan and scheme is that other folks – you! – will agree. Every dime of every download will go to buy and maintain musical instruments for Kamenge Friends Church.
